RE-IMAGINING A BETTER CONNECTED AND INNOVATIVE AFRICA

African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) is launching a new initiative dubbed “Re-imagining a Better Connected and Innovative Africa.” As an inter-governmental institution with various member countries in Africa, AFRALTI, has noted that there exists a “missing Link” premised on collaboration that can rapidly contribute to addressing the existing coverage and usage gaps, achieving universal and meaningful connectivity and leapfrogging developments on emerging technology trends such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI).  Read more

AFRALTI PARTNERS WITH (ISC)² TO BUILD CAPACITY IN CYBERSECURITY IN THE SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA

With 5.3 billion online users globally according to ITU report, the prevalence of cybercrimes is concerning, as one-sixth of all crimes are now committed in the digital realm. In Kenya, during the period January to March 2023, the National KE-CIRT/CC detected over 187 million threat attempts targeting critical infrastructure service providers in a short period. By 2030, it is projected that over 50% of jobs in Africa will require some level of digital skills, in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to a report by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), 230 million jobs will demand digital skills by the same year.  Read more
 

CHILD ONLINE PROTECTION TRAINING 2023

The latest Q2 2022/2023 ICT sector statistics report indicate that there are over 65.7m mobile subscribers in Kenya, a 133% percent mobile penetration and the report further indicating that 47.7m Kenyans are mobile data subscribers. This sector statistics report demonstrates an increase in the growth of mobile service subscribers over the years and as such this report indicates that there has also been an exponential increase in the number of users of communication services. In view of this it is safe to conclude that the number of children having accesses to these services has increased and also the accessibility to mobile devices by this target group. Read more
 

AFRALTI TRAINS AFRICAN TELECOMMUNICATIONS UNION MEMBER STATES IN DIGITAL SOUND BROADCASTING (DSB) SYSTEMS

As part of the implementation of ATU’s Strategy for Introduction and Promotion of Digital Sound Broadcasting (DSB) in Africa and its initiative, the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) collaborated with ITU, AFRALTI, WorldDAB and DRM Consortiums, in putting together a first-of-its-kind specialized course on DSB systems under the ITU Academy. Read more
