As the value of being connected to the internet increases, the need to make internet access available and affordable to all citizens becomes ever more urgent. But how many people have access to the internet? Statistics are often quoted about what percentage of the world has access to the internet but those numbers are inevitably fuzzy, relying on varying definitions of internet access and varying levels of reporting quality.
Fibre optic networks are essential infrastructure for a modern economy, but the telecom sector lacks readily available and usable data on their infrastructure. Under a joint declaration, the World Bank and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) launched the Open Fibre Data Standard (OFDS) initiative and partnered with Mozilla Corporation to develop a data standard for publishing data on fibre optic broadband infrastructure. ATC GLOBAL ANNUAL MEETING
The ITU Academy Training Centres (ATCs) first annual meeting took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 17 to 19 October 2023 as organized by the Capacity and Digital Skills Development Division, BDT/ITU. The event brought together representatives of 13 ITU Academy Training Centres (ATCs) which started operations in 2023, to discuss the implementation of the program, explore innovative ideas to support the work of the ATCs, and strengthen the collaboration among centers.Read more
CHINA AFRICA DIGITAL CAPACITY BUILDING COOPERATION FORUM
AFRALTI had the privilege to represent its nine member states at the China Africa Digital Capacity Building Cooperation Forum held in Beijing, China. AFRALTI’s participation at the forum comes after a recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Academy of Information and Communication (CAICT) which aims to strengthen cooperation on digital economy governance and policy, ICT industry development, innovation and entrepreneurship, digital inclusiveness and digital transformation.Read more
