AFRALTI PLEDGES TO ITU PARTNER2CONNECT DIGITAL COALITION
The Partner2Connect Digital Coalition is a multistakeholder alliance launched by ITU in close cooperation with the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, and in line with the UN Secretary-General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation, to foster meaningful connectivity and digital transformation globally, with a focus on but not limited to hardest- to-connect communities in Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Partner2Connect is a game-changing opportunity to advance progress towards meaningful connectivity and digital transformation by mobilizing new resources and partnerships. As this aligns with AFRALTI’s mandate to provide quality ICT services to the African region, AFRALTI has pledged to advocate for empowering of unserved and underserved communities for achievement of universal broadband access to the Internet.
Through awareness creation to the policy makers and industry, AFRALTI will capitalise on its experience in capacity building and training to reach youth between 14 and 25 years who are most likely to be in high school and colleges to provide training in digital literacy and introduction to coding. The pledge will also target persons with disabilities and women.
AFRALTI with its partners shall conduct empirical researches that will bring out the challenges that lead to inequality in broadband access to the stakeholders in governments and industry to assist in development of intervention programs that will facilitate universal access to broadband internet.
The estimated value of the AFRALTI pledge is USD 300,000 which will see its implementation in Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
